5 Red Flags Your Gas Installation Isn't Compliant

Learn the top 5 warning signs your LP Gas installation might not meet South African standards
Why Compliance Matters

In South Africa, every LP Gas installation must comply with SANS 10087-1 standards and the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER). Without a valid Certificate of Compliance (CoC), you are at risk of insurance claim rejection, legal issues, and serious safety hazards.

Here are the 5 biggest red flags that your installation might not be compliant.

1. No Certificate of Compliance

If you don't have a CoC issued by a SAQCC Gas-registered installer, your system is not legally compliant. This is the first and clearest warning sign.

2. Cylinders Installed Too Close to Windows/Doors

SANS regulations require at least 1 metre from doors/windows, 2 metres from drains, and 5 metres from electrical points. If your cylinders are too close, your installation is unsafe.

3. No Pressure or Leak Test Done

A qualified installer will always perform a leak and pressure test. If your installer skipped this step, your system could be dangerous.

4. Unapproved Materials or Hoses

Only SABS and SAQCC approved pipes and hoses may be used. If you see a garden hose or poor-quality fittings, that's a huge red flag.

5. Installer Not Registered

If your installer cannot show you their SAQCC Gas registration card, the work is not recognised. Unqualified installers = invalid CoC = big risks.
