Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) Explained

Your Ticket to Legal, Safe Gas
What Is a COC?

A Certificate of Compliance (CoC) is your proof that your gas installation meets South Africa's legal safety standards under SANS 10087-1 and the Pressure Equipment Regulations.

Only registered SAQCC Gas practitioners can issue it, and it confirms that your gas system was installed safely, leak-tested, and approved.

Why It Matters
  • Insurance Coverage – No valid CoC = no payout.
  • Property Transfers – You can't sell a house with gas fittings unless there's a valid CoC
  • Peace of Mind – You know your installation has been inspected by professionals.
  • Legal Protection – It shows you've complied with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS).
How to Check If Your CoC Is Valid

Ask your installer for their SAQCC registration number – it should appear on your certificate. You can also verify the installer online at www.saqccgas.co.za.

If your CoC is over five years old, or if you've made changes to your gas system, it's time for a re-inspection.

Common Misconceptions
  • "My plumber can sign my gas CoC". Nope – Unless he is also a certified gas practitioner, your plumber cannot sign a gas CoC.
  • "I got my CoC years ago; I'm sorted forever." Not true – A CoC must be renewed after any installation or modification.
  • "It's just paperwork." It's not – it's legal proof of safety and compliance.
