LP Gas 101

Why Safety Starts With Your Installer
Safety Starts Here

Saturday braai. Laughing kids. Meat sizzling. The last thing you need? A gas leak or a "boom" moment. LP Gas is one of South Africa's safest, cleanest fuels – but only if installed correctly.

At Gas Mart Vaal, we believe safe gas is smart gas. And it all starts with using a qualified, SAQCC-registered installer who issues a valid Certificate of Compliance (CoC).

What the Law Says

In South Africa, LP Gas installations must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Pressure Equipment Regulations (PER), and SANS 10087-1:2024 (Ed. 7). A CoC is legally required for:

  • All new gas installations
  • Any modification or extension of existing installations
  • Property sales and insurance compliance

Failing to have a CoC can result in insurance claim rejections and possible legal penalties.

Why a Registered Installer Matters

A qualified installer will:

  • Use SABS-approved materials
  • Maintain correct safety distances (1 m from doors, 2 m from drains, 5 m from electrical points)
  • Pressure-test and leak-test your system
  • Issue your CoC

Unqualified work risks leak, fire hazards, and even explosions (the "boom" moment).
